Contemporary and abstract paintings.
Robin studied art at Preston College and went on to obtain a BA
(Hons) Illustration at the University of Central Lancashire.
A lot of Robin’s work is inspired by landscape as well as
natural objects such as shells, stones and pieces of wood etc, this
gives the palette and the general ‘feel’ of the painting.
However, as the work progresses it usually takes on a life of its’
own and becomes more spontaneous and experimental.
Generally speaking Robin does not like to work outdoors other than
for quick sketches, preferring to use a digital camera to collect
information. These photographs are then used to make thumbnail sketches
in order to determine tonal values and design. Robin then works
from these and from memory rather than from the photographs in order
to produce an imaginative response that concentrates on the main
focus of interest which is usually more to do with the effects of
lighting, colour relationships and surface patterns rather than
trying to depict any particular place.
