A love of symmetry, semi abstract shapes plus the strong colours of autumn and winter run through much of my work. Favourite subjects are landscapes and historic transport. The beauty of the English Lake District; Howgill Fells; Scottish Highlands and Yorkshire Dales hold a special appeal. When abroad it’s Italy. Images are usually spontaneous ie not pre-planned.
I was born in Southport and am self taught. I still use traditional transparency film and do not personally use filters or digital manipulation/enhancement. Cameras used have been Chinon then Pentax SLR’s.
I was invited to hold my own exhibitions in Tuscany and Portland (Oregon); had my own at Towneley Hall, Lancashire; The Theatre by the Lake, Cumbria and won awards and acceptances in many exhibitions run by the Royal Photographic Society and similar distinguished bodies.
BBC TV and radio described the work as “fantastic” and “spectacular” respectively. Amongst publications to have featured my work are the respected “Amateur Photographer” (oldest photo magazine in the world) and “Lancashire Life”. Major UK organisations such as British Aerospace and United Utilities have purchased my work. Numerous commissions have been undertaken including photographing a remote Highland village – and a herd of Jersey cows. Work has been sold in many galleries (including at my own ABC Gallery when at WWT Martin Mere, Lancashire for several years).
I have been awarded the Distinction of Licentiateship of the Royal Photographic Society (LRPS) and am a member of the RPS as well as the Art and Craft Guild of Lancashire.
