I grew up in a converted windmill on the West Lancashire coastal
plain, with frequent visits to my grandmother’s house in the Perthshire
countryside. I was surrounded by big skies, space - and in Scotland
hills and mountains.
I studied at Southport College of Art and Design in the late 60’s.
I then went on to design in both fabric and wallpaper design. During
this time I developed a love of colour and texture using a limited
palette.
I am generally a studio painter - preferring to work to a mental/visual
image of the complete work. My paintings are created from a combination
of photographs, observation, memory and a feel for the place. My
main criterion is that as a keen mountain walker I have personally
experienced each place. I work almost exclusively in acrylic. The
strong colours, pliability and fast drying time enable me to build
up the space and feel of the place quickly.
My work has been exhibited in various galleries in the North West
and is currently on permanent display at the ABC Gallery, Martin
Mere, Lancashire.
