After graduating in 1986 from Liverpool Polytechnic with a BA (Hons)
Combined Studies majoring in Art and Design I set up my business
with the support of the Princes Youth Business Trust. The technique
I use is a monoprint method of handpainting which I experimented
with and developed at college. Each piece is painted individually
but, unlike other methods of handpainting, this technique allows
me the freedom to achieve a paint-brush mark. This typifies all
of my designs which are controlled yet painterly.
Source material for designs varies tremendously from the work of
artists such as Klimt and Klee to celtic patterns and illuminated
manuscripts or more simply flowers from my garden. Over the years
I have produced special designs for bodies such as The National
Trust, Yorkshire Dales National Park, Lady Lever Art Gallery and
The Walker Art Gallery.
