I am a handwoven textiles designer living in Bolton, where I weave
in my home workshop and studio. Trained and educated in Birmingham,
Bradford and Manchester, I have been acquiring the skills of a weaver
for 15 years, and continue to learn as I develop my own designs
through visual research, sampling and experimentation.
I derive my inspiration from the colours, structures and textures
in both the natural and man-made world, translating these into hangings,
panels, tablelinens and cushions on my 8-shaft dobby loom. My work
varies from bold, colourful and contemporary to subdued and contemplative,
reflecting the contradictions and fluctuations in the modern world.
My current work is inspired by architectural structures in the
built environment, such as rooftops, doorways and bridges.
I welcome commissions from individuals and organisations to design
work according to individual specifications or a particular colour
palette.
With extensive experience in educational and health care settings,
working with all age ranges and abilities, I offer a range of workshops
in traditional textiles techniques such as spinning, weaving, natural
dyeing and feltmaking, using sustainable and fairly-traded materials
and equipment wherever possible. I am available to demonstrate and
speak to guilds and other groups.
