It was while studying Art at teacher training college that I discovered clay and knew immediately that this was a medium to which I could relate. At the start of my career I was very fortunate to be offered a post in a school that had an established ceramics department and the next thirty years were spent sharing my enthusiasm for clay with literally thousands of young people.
Having recently retired, I can now spend time developing new designs and experimenting with a material that I still find fascinating.
Most of my current work is both ornamental and functional, involving a variety of construction techniques. Shapes found in nature usually inspire initial designs and glazes and oxides are then used to create surface patterns or to emphasise textures. Although I prefer to make individual pieces, I am quite happy to repeat designs if requested.
I am also willing to undertake commissions.
