A graduate of Sheffield University, Betty Morris' early career was in
science, but she has always enjoyed painting and stitching. This interest led
to City and Guilds Embroidery. She completed part 2 in 1985 and since then has
been exhibiting and selling her work. She has taught some private classes and
workshops. Betty became a member of the Craft Guild in 1988.She also exhibits
with the Sefton Guild of Artists and with some galleries in the North West.
"My work is mainly inspired by landscape and based on my
"on the spot" sketches and photographs. I use paints,
dyes, applied fabrics and machine and hand stitching and enjoy experimenting
with the materials and methods of contemporary embroidery. Another
source of ideas is architecture and some of my work has used Indian,
Greek or Roman buildings and decoration as design sources. In these
pieces I enjoy exploring colour and pattern."
More of Betty's work can be seen at her website.
